Romney’s Rocky Road Takes Another U-Turn
2nd February 2012
by
Another flip-flop from the candidate who “isn’t concerned with the very poor.” This time Romney’s changed his position on a very important issue that affects so many hard working men and women— the minimum wage.
When Romney challenged Ted Kennedy in 1994 he opposed increasing the minimum wage. I should know— I produced an ad for Senator Kennedy’s campaign that hit Romney on this very issue.

Romney’s Rocky Road to the nomination has been an incredible journey of twists and turns. It’s anyone’s guess where he’ll stand tomorrow on the minimum wage or any other issue.
Tad Quoted in Bloomberg News
2nd February 2012
by
Tad was quoted in a Bloomberg News article discussing Obama's strategic maneuver of attacking Mitt Romney and his views without ever saying his name.
Tad explained that Obama is "engaging in the debate without engaging Romney" and encouraged this strategy, stating that the Obama campaign "understand[s] they can give the stage to Romney himself, which he would dominate, or they can provide a contrast."

Tad on The Kudlow Report
2nd February 2012
by
Tad appeared on The Kudlow Report last night along with Steve Forbes and Mark McKinnon to discuss Mitt Romney's tax plan as well as the heated republican primary and the effects it will have on the general election.
Explaining how a tough primary fight could be damaging to a candidates general election potential, Tad stated, "when you have a tough process that goes all the way to the convention, inevitably it hurts the nominee of that party." Furthermore, Obama "is going to be in a strong state by the time we come to the general election because the republicans are hurting themselves badly."

Tad joined Al Sharpton on Politics Nation last night to discuss President Obama's strategy of touring five states following a very powerful State of the Union address on Tuesday.
Obama's discussion of immigration in his SOTU, paired with his recent visit to Arizona, Colorado, and Nevada, show that he is ready to take on this issue. Tad believes that this will help him gain the support of many Latino voters and will contribute to why Obama "has a good chance of winning all those states in the general election."

Tad Quoted in NYTimes
19th January 2012
by
Tad was quoted in the New York Times regarding the ads he produced on behalf of Senator Ted Kennedy in his re-election campaign against Mitt Romney in 1994.
Describing ads that featured laid off workers from a paper plant owned by Mr. Romney's company Bain capital, Tad explained, “we put this stuff on television and it began to resonate.” These attack ads prompted the public to mobilize against Romney and played a critical role in his defeat.

Tad on Politics Nation
18th January 2012
by
Tad joined Executive Director of the DNC, Patrick Gaspard, on Al Sharpton’s Politics Nation to discuss how an improving economic environment will effect President Obama’s re-election prospects as well as Mitt Romney’s ongoing trouble to win the hearts of “core” Republican voters.
Drawing a sharp contrast between President Obama and Romney, Tad explained that while President Obama’s American Jobs Act is an innovative and bold attempt to create good jobs, Romney's “jobs plan” is merely the same old failed economic policies of the Bush administration, policies that led our country “to the brink of another great depression.” As to why, core Republican voters cannot commit to Romney, Tad explains that Romney is perceived as inauthentic because "he's been on both sides of big issues that matter to them".

Romney Playing Race Card in Latest Ad
23rd November 2011
by
In a tweet Tuesday evening, Tad Devine noted that he was "shocked" to see what he believed was imagery of an African-American church in an ad released by Mitt Romney's campaign.
When interviewed by The Hill newspaper, Tad expanded on his tweet, "there is no other rational explanation for that scene other than to suggest a racial reference, and most likely invoke Jeremiah Wright."

18th October 2011

Tad appeared on Andrea Mitchell Reports this afternoon to discuss the upcoming GOP debate in Nevada and what’s at stake for the frontrunners.
Referring to Mitt Romney’s opposition to foreclosure relief in Nevada, Tad compared Romney to another individual famous for callous remarks, “he sounds like Marie Antoinette: ‘let them eat cake.’”
“He’s going to put so much distance between himself and voters that it’s really going to hurt him if he keeps it up.”

Tad appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews last night to discuss “Why Christie won’t run in 2012.”
“I think he has to realize that to run for President, the process is very difficult. Fundraising at $2,500 a pop is really tough. I don’t think there’s time for him to do it and I think they’re smart enough to figure that out.”

The Ever-Changing Map to the White House
30th September 2011
by
The New York Times asked Tad to weigh in on President Obama’s path to re-election and “the Obama electorate.”
Referring to his work on Vice President Al Gore and Senator John Kerry’s bid for the White House, Devine explains “Obama has got places to go that we couldn’t go. We couldn’t even target North Carolina when Kerry’s running mate was from North Carolina.” However, the president’s re-election won’t be “a triumphal march to almost 54 percent of the vote and 365 electoral votes.”
Thanks to changing demographics, once solidly red states are becoming purple. As these states continue to grow, their demographics consist of more Democrat-friendly voters, including educated and higher-income earners, young people, as well as Hispanics and African-Americans.

Tad Quoted in New York Magazine
27th October 2010
by
On September 19, 2010, Tad Devine was quoted in the New York Magazine article, "You Gonna Get Ready to Rumble?" He spoke about his experience on the reelection campaign for Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) in 1994.
Excerpt: Trailing in the polls, Kennedy sent his adman, Tad Devine, to Indiana to film interviews with workers at a stationery company called Ampad. A few months earlier, Ampad, owned by the investment company Romney founded, had bought a factory there and promptly instituted layoffs and wage cuts. Now the Ampad workers unburdened themselves to Devine’s cameras—“I don’t like Romney talking about creating jobs,” said one, “he took all ours away”—and the Kennedy campaign turned the interviews into what the Boston Globe called “a virtual mini-series of ads” that obliterated Romney’s greatest selling point. In the end, Kennedy was reelected by nearly twenty points.

TEDxPenn Quarter UPDATE
13th July 2010

Fantastic event on Sunday at the Newseum. Great speakers and great audience. Loved Kim Scheinberg on reinventing Angel Investing and Seaton Smith on reinventing the black comedian. Hilarious. TEDx is, correctly, brutally strict on the time allowed speakers. So had to rush my ending... But summation: Authenticity is key. Talk to voters as adults. And humanizing yourself re: mistakes made can pay off big dividends.
Many thanks again to Cynergy and Shawn Broxson for the invitation! Was an honor.

Independents Gain Favor in Governors' Race

Appearing on the front page of USA Today this morning, Independent candidates Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island and Eliot Cutler of Maine are praised as two of three credible independent contenders for governor. Citing front runner Linc Chafee's independent streak, USA Today writes, "running as an Independent frees [Chafee] from defending party positions." Eliot Cutler's campaign continues full steam ahead as USA Today counts Cutler as one of three candidates that "promise straight talk and tough love" at a time when it is needed most. As support for Independent candidates continues to soar, Chafee and Cutler are uniquely situated to win big in November.

Tad Devine on Andrea Mitchell 6.29.2010
29th June 2010
by
A whirlwind of a week after President Obama accepted General McChyrstal's resignation and nominated General Petraeus, Tad Devine appeared on Andrea Mitchell Reports to discuss the confirmation hearings of General Petraeus and Elena Kagan, as well as the challenges currently facing President Obama.
Confirmation hearings are often challenging times for Presidential appointees. Petraeus is expected to slide through his confirmations, while Kagan has already been on the receiving end of Republican criticism. Calling Kagan a "political operative," Senate Republicans claim Kagan's politics may interfere with her role as a Justice. In response, Devine asserted that Republicans are forced to make unsubstantiated claims because they have nothing else on Kagan, who has pledged to be a "modest Justice" on the court.
On the withdrawal timetable for the ongoing war in Afghanistan, Devine recognizes that in order to keep the support of his party and the public end dates must be set. He did note however, that President Obama made it clear that the withdrawal of troops does not mean the United States will "close the door and shut the lights" on Afghanistan.
Devine brought his opinion and wit to Andrea Mitchell Reports as he does every time he appears on television.
