The Ever-Changing Map to the White House

The New York Times asked Tad to weigh in on President Obama’s path to re-election and “the Obama electorate.”

Referring to his work on Vice President Al Gore and Senator John Kerry’s bid for the White House, Devine explains “Obama has got places to go that we couldn’t go. We couldn’t even target North Carolina when Kerry’s running mate was from North Carolina.” However, the president’s re-election won’t be “a triumphal march to almost 54 percent of the vote and 365 electoral votes.”

Thanks to changing demographics, once solidly red states are becoming purple. As these states continue to grow, their demographics consist of more Democrat-friendly voters, including educated and higher-income earners, young people, as well as Hispanics and African-Americans.
